Signed a contract to research Korean Immigration and Independence Movement Data in Hawaii

On August 19, 2019, Inha University's International Relations Research Institute signed a contract with the Korean Immigration Museum to research Korean immigration and independence movement data in Hawaii.


Background and Necessity of Business

○ The study of materials with high cultural, bibliographical and cultural history values ​​left behind in the history of Korean Diaspora in Hawaii, which had to pioneer a new life due to the difficult environment and a desire for a better life.

○ Currently, there are many collections including various materials showing the immigration history, life history, and independence movement of Koreans in Hawaii from the words of the Korean Studies Institute at the University of Hawaii until after liberation, and Korean data collected by US military personnel and Koreans.

○ In the situation where even basic research such as cataloging, electronification, and printing of each document cannot be conducted, there is an urgent need for measures to preserve data and further research.


Purpose of business

○ Discovery and investigation of rare data with high historical and cultural history among Korean immigration history and independence movement data held by Korean Studies Institute in Hawaii

○ Through the screening and cataloging of the target data, it is used as basic data for future research, and the release of the data is written based on this.

○ Record work for preservation and collection of future survey data and screening work for further research

○ Acquisition of data that can be digitalized and printed later
