인하대학교 국제관계연구소는 1985년 설립되어 국제문제에 대한 학술연구 및 정책연구, 각종학술도서 및 연구결과 보고서 정기간행물을 비롯한 출판사업, 학연구회 및 토론회, 학술회의, 공개강연회의 개최, 국제협력사업 등의 활발한 활동을해온 인하대학교 인문ㆍ사회과학계통의 대표적 연구소이다. 연 3회(4월, 8월, 12월) 발간하는 영문저널 Pacific Focus는 2007년 국제수준 학술지(SSCI 및 SCOPUS)에 등재된 전문학술지로 약 30여년의 역사를 보유하고 있다. Pacific Focus는 양호한 인용지수(impact factor)를 유지해오고 있어 아시아에서 가장 영향력 있는 저널 중 하나로 평가받고 있다.

국제관계연구소는 한반도를 포함한 동아시아의 국제관계 및 전통적 ㆍ비전통적 인보에 대한 연구를 진행해오고 있다. 2007년 국제관계연구소 산하에 이주 및 재외동포센터가 설립되면서 동아시아 지역의 다양한 주제를 보다 심도있게 연구하고 있다.

국제관계연구소는 연구 및 인적 교류를 위하여, 미국, 일본, 중국, 대만, 우즈베키스탄, 러시아 등의 학교 및 연구기관들과 교류 증진을 위한 논의를 진행하왔으며, 이들과의 협정(MOU)을 통해 협력을 유지하고 있다. 이화 함께 현재에도 여러 기관 및 대학교와 교류협정을 논의하고 있거나 계획 중이다.

국제관계연구소는 지난 30년 동안 대학부설연구소가 가진 한계에도 불구하고 국내의 다른 어느 연구소들보다도 뛰어난 활동을 전개하여 왔다고 자부할 수 있다. 본 대학이 국제화시대의 도래와 이에 부응할 수 있는 인재양성 및 연구력 향상을 위하여 국제통상학부의 신설 등 학부개편과 연구시설에 대한 투자를 과감히 증대시키는 계획을 수립, 실전하고 있는 이때 국제관계연구소의 역할은 본 대학의 미래발전과 관련하여 중요한 위치를 자치하고 있다고 할 수 있다.

Established in March 1985 as an affiliated research organization of Inha University, the Center for International Studies (CIS) is dedicated to carrying out research, producing periodical and nonperiodical publications, and hosting various academic conferences and colloquiums regarding international relations. The research focus of the CIS includes security, international political economy, regionalism, immigration, and environmental issues in the East Asian region. In particular, withthe establishment of Migration and Overseas Korean Center under the CIS in 2007, the CIS has been engaged with more various researches in depth. The CIS publishes Pacific Focus triannually, which was listed in SSCI and SCOPUS indexes in 2007. The journal has maintained its excellent reputation and has been evaluated as one of the leading academic journals in Asia.

CIS has joined memorandum of understanding (MOU) with many universities and research institutes in the U.S., China. Japan, Taiwan, Russia, and Uzbekistan in order to academic cooperation and is planing academic cooperation many other universities and research institutes in foreign countries.
