On November 2, 2022, the K Academic Diffusion Research Center held the 3rd Colloquium of the 2nd year with Director Lee Duk-hee of the Hawaii Korean Immigration Research Center. Focusing on the theme of “Korean Language School and Education for the Next Generation of Koreans in Modern Hawaii, Director Lee illustrated the overview of Korean education, the history of Korean studies, and the development of Korean (language) schools in the early stage of overseas Koreans in Hawaii, particularly from 1906 to 1945. The bottom line is that Korean immigrants’ innate passion for learning, enthusiasm for their children’s education, and earnest desire for Korea’s independence and the cultivation of Korean identity, eventually contributing to the development of Korean language (Hangeul) schools in Hawaii. Above all, a lively Q&A session between students and Director Lee allowed to have a forum to mutually interact each other.
